Monsters are always good to work with creatively, uncovering our deepest fears and stretching imaginations. Inspired by a Poetry Society exercise, I asked the children to write a list of body parts and a list of things they hate and then put them together to describe a monster, not forgetting to give the monster a name. Here are some results:
Medusa the sly snake head
Olive oil a perfect trap
Nasty terrifying creatures
Super shocking mugs
Evil zombie girl
Rough horrible bullies!
Mouth smothered with curry
Odd one direction fans
Nails shaped as dentist tools
Sneakers as red as chilli
Teeth as red as clown’s lips
Ears blocked with Justin Bieber stickers
Rough toes slippery with garlic
arms with grime
blank-eyed fat slugs
voldemort with eight legs
the bloody baron with hairy body parts
death eaters in black cloaks.
He has a bladder like jammy goo
And long arms made of coleslaw
He has legs made from potato salad
And blunt claws that are made of clowns
He has a pea brain made with spiders
And a stomach like Mrs Cow
And pins like nightmares
He has a voice box like death
He has pimples like kidnappers
He has moles like illness
And ears like pigwig.
Steve Evil Toe
Its warts are like uncomfortable chairs
Its tentacles are as annoying as red crayons
Its legs are like nightmares
Its teeth are as disgusting as potato fritata
Even its moles have moles
And its left pinky toe is as evil as dogs.
When the ziva horse steps up to you,
Fangs bared ready for the kill.
The vivid yellow venom dripping from its gaping mouth
An orange gooey liquid oozing out of its left ear.
Brown decaying bones
Rotting, mouldy dark green flesh
As solid as concrete
Browny yellow warts sit on its irregular-shaped face.
Jagged black claws to rip up the average human
They are camouflaged at night
A humungous larynx
It produces an ear-splitting roar
To shatter any window
To explode anybody’s head.
This monster will kill anything
If you see it you are dead
If it looks at you, you brain will implode.
Bamboozil the monster
I saw last night
A monster so scary
It will give you a fright.
It had purple spikes all over its back
If you saw him you would turn right back
Spikes as sharp as a golden razor
They are as powerful as a red laser.
It had talons like an eagle
They were as brown as a beagle
They were as shaped as barbed wire
And he is a big fat liar!
